Andy Reid Has Already Offered Alex Smith a Coaching Job

Updated:

Veteran NFL journeyman quarterback Alex Smith announced this morning on his Instagram account that he is retiring after 16 years in the league. However, it didn't even take a couple of hours before Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid offered him a coaching job.

Alex Smith Coaching Rumors

This doesn't come as a huge surprise given Smith spent 5 seasons in Kansas City being coached by Reid. The two of them obviously have a strong relationship and Smith led the Chiefs to a 50-26 record as the starter. He was eventually traded to give way to current NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes.

The 36-year old signal caller had one of the greatest comeback stories in NFL history last season fighting all the way back from a gruesome leg injury that required 17 surgeries to repair. He even made the playoffs with the Washington Football Team.

The fact that a coach like Reid wants "dibs" on him only speaks to the character and wisdom Smith played the game of football with.

Right now, it is unclear what Smith plans to do with his future, but coaching makes a lot of sense for the former No. 1 pick. He has been known as one of the smartest quarterbacks in the NFL.
