Albert Wilson Reveals Shocking Details About Dolphins Toxic Environment in 2021

Shortly after the Miami Dolphins fired ex-head coach Brian Flores earlier this offseason, rumors began to emerge that the former bench boss didn't exactly create the best working environment. Former Dolphins wide receiver Albert Wilson's experience with the team in 2021 adds credibility to those rumors.

Nick Hicks — Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa's personal trainer — discussed Wilson's experience in Miami on Phinside the NFL on Wednesday. Hicks said that the veteran wideout told him that the 2021 campaign was the "strangest year of football" in his entire life.

According to Hicks' discussion with Wilson, Dolphins players had to "walk single file down the hallway" and couldn't speak to each other, often "walking on pins and needles." No matter how you slice it, treating players like children isn't an effective way to run a team.

The good news for Dolphins fans is that the franchise appears to be in better hands with Mike McDaniel as the head coach. Hicks added that the team is already taking a liking to McDaniel because he's "encouraging," "smart" and knows that a player's mental well-being is important.

It's possible that Flores' coaching philosophy played a role in the Dolphins' 1-7 start to the 2021 NFL season. They managed to get the year by winning eight of their last nine games, but it was too little too late. Now, McDaniel is being tasked with beginning the upcoming campaign on a stronger note.

Fortunately, general manager Chris Grier has put together a solid roster on both sides of the ball. The offensive line is stronger than last year, superstar WR Tyreek Hill should help Tagovailoa excel and the defense should continue being one of the stronger units in the league.

Assuming McDaniel can bring the same level of play that helped him succeed with the San Francisco 49ers, the Dolphins could be a surprising AFC threat this fall.
