The duel between rookie Brock Purdy and seven-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady didn't go as many predicted in Week 14. Purdy completely outshined his more accomplished counterpart, torching a talented Tampa Bay Bay Buccaneers defense en route to a 35-7 blowout win.
However, it appears Burdy may have gotten banged up during the contest.
Brock Purdy Injury Update
Kyle Shanahan told reporters after the game that Purdy has an oblique injury. The Niners head coach clarified that Purdy was pulled due to the score rather than his ailment, but the QB will be monitored in the coming days.
Injuries and San Francisco quarterbacks have not mixed well during the 2022 season, so this definitely prompts some concern. After losing Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo, Purdy has filled in admirably as the starter, giving this team hope it can remain a contender even with the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft under center.
Hopefully Purdy's oblique issue turns out to be minor since Shanahan didn't seem too worried about the QB's health. However, playing on Thursday Night Football this week against the Seattle Seahawks certainly complicates things. If Purdy isn't good enough to go on the short turnaround, it could be journeyman Josh Johnson getting the start in Week 15.
The 49ers are slated as 3.5-point road favorites over the Seahawks, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's opening NFL odds.
