4 Greatest Quarterbacks in Jaguars History

4 Greatest Quarterbacks in Jaguars History

Updated:

With the franchise's first official season in 1995, the Jacksonville Jaguars are one of the youngest franchises in the NFL, and have mostly struggled since their integration. The quarterback play in particular has been less than spectacular, to put it nicely, so much so that fan-favorite and rookie QB Gardner Minshew took the franchise by storm with a 6-6 record in 2019.

With all that in mind, here are the top four quarterbacks in franchise history.

Best Jaguars QBs

4. Blake Bortles (2014-18)

Blake Bortles was more of a bust for this franchise after being drafted third overall in 2014, but the Jags quarterback did win the AFC South once during his tenure and even came a few minutes shy of leading Jacksonville to its first Super Bowl appearance that same season. Second in all-time Jaguars passing yardage with an 80.6 quarterback rating, Bortles deserves to make this list, despite an awful team record and plenty of scrutiny under his watch.

3. Byron Leftwich (2003-06)

Another arguably failed Jaguars first-rounder, Byron Leftwich was more of a winner than Bortles during his span as the starter. His record was 24-20, but his lackluster stat lines caused the team to go in another direction after his rookie deal expired. Even so, Leftwich had a 80.5 quarterback rating as a Jaguar. He was eventually part of a Super Bowl roster with the Pittsburgh Steelers too.

2. David Garrard (2002-10)

The man that took Leftwich's job was David Garrard, although his stats are almost identical in hindsight. With an overall Jaguars record just two games over .500 and a quarterback rating of 85.8, Garrard's individual play was more efficient than his team's. The Jacksonville QB made one Pro Bowl in 2009 and actually boasts the top completion percentage in Jaguars history (10-plus starts) at 61.6 percent.

1. Mark Brunell (1995-2003)

First on the list (in part because he held this job the longest) is Mark Brunell, who leads all Jaguars quarterbacks in passing yardage and touchdowns at 25,698 and 144, respectively. His quarterback rating was an 85.4, and he was actually a three-time Pro Bowler with Jacksonville. The team even won two AFC Central titles under his leadership. As of now, Brunell should be considered the greatest Jaguars quarterback of all-time.
