3 Orioles Most Likely to Be Dealt at the Trade Deadline

The Baltimore Orioles find themselves at the bottom of an AL East division that is stacked with talent. Nevertheless, they have no shortage of skilled players of their own like outfielder Cedric Mullins and catcher Adley Rutchsman. The front office just has to figure out the best way to build around them.

Taking advantage of the upcoming MLB Trade Deadline by acquiring prospects and cash for expendable players is one way to do that. It's proven to be a reliable rebuilding strategy in the past. Here's a look at three Orioles players that are the most likely to be moved before August arrives.

Baltimore Orioles Trade Rumors

1. Trey Mancini, 1B

Trey Mancini has long been a fan favorite in Baltimore thanks to his optimistic attitude and consistency at the plate. That hasn't changed in 2022. The 30-year-old is slashing .290/.373/.424 to go along with 25 runs scored, 9 doubles, 6 home runs, 25 RBI and 24 walks across 58 games. What has changed is that Mancini may no longer fit in Baltimore's future plans. He has strictly been their DH this season and comes with a mutual option for the 2023 season. Teams looking for a power boost will certainly be calling the Orioles to check on Mancini's price.

2. Jorge Lopez, RP

There's no denying that Jorge Lopez has had one of the most surprising turnarounds in baseball this season. After posting and ERA higher than 6.00 in 2019, 2020 and 2021, he has emerged as a shutdown closer for the Orioles. Lopez has logged an impressive 0.88 ERA and 0.88 WHIP across his first 26 appearances on the season (30.2 innings). He's also locked down nine saves and has yet to allow a single home run. Contenders are always looking for backend bullpen help, so expect Lopez's name to be floated around all summer.

3. Anthony Santander, OF

Anthony Santander is an interesting name to include here because he is only 27 years old and has two years left under team control. He's never been praised as a center piece of the Orioles rebuilding era, though. Baltimore's prospects list is filled with standout outfielders, putting Santander's spot in the starting lineup at risk in 2023 and beyond. The sixth-year pro's 28 runs scored, 9 home runs and 33 RBI are certainly nothing to scoff at. It wouldn't be shocking to see a playoff team in need of outfield help put together an offer the Orioles cannot refuse.
