3 Most Likely Jakobi Meyers Free Agent Destinations

Updated:

The start of the NFL's new league year is under a month away and teams are already starting to figure out which free agents should be targeted. This year's wide receiver class includes Jakobi Meyers, who racked up 804 yards and 6 touchdowns on 67 receptions (96 targets) across 14 games in 2022.

Meyers has come a long way since joining the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent back in 2019. His quiet demeanor overshadows his elite reliability and he could ball out if put into the right offensive system.

With that in mind, here are three of the most likely free-agent destinations for Meyers.

Jakobi Meyers Free Agent Destinations

1. Chicago Bears

It would not be surprising to see the Bears throw their name into the conversation when it comes to multiple highly-touted free agents this offseason. That's because the team has the most available cap space of any NFL organization ($97.8 million) and holes all over the roster. One of those holes is at wide receiver, as Chicago finished dead last in receiving yards as a team this past season (2,598). Meyers has posted at least 700 yards in each of the last three seasons and can grow with quarterback Justin Fields given that he is only 26 years old. Signing the former NC State standout would be the splash the Bears need to get their fans to buy back in right away.

2. New York Giants

The Giants are another great fit for Meyers considering he is a pass-catcher who primarily works out of the slot position. That role has been taken up in New York by Sterling Shepard for the past few years, but he is set to be a free agent. Quarterback Daniel Jones thrives when he has someone he can rely on if the pocket breaks down. Meyers tallied a career-high 236 yards after the catch in 2022, showcasing an ability to make defenders miss in the open field. Joining a team that has a shot to make the playoffs in 2023 and is led by the reigning NFL Coach of the Year in Brian Daboll has to be enticing for Meyers.

3. Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons find themselves in a similar spot to the Giants. They have a great deep threat in wide receiver Drake London and a monster capable of terrorizing the middle of the field in tight end Kyle Pitts. Atlanta's offense is missing a dependable slot option, though, with Olamide Zaccheaus entering the open market. Meyers lined up in the slot during 57.1% of his offensive snaps in 2022. The Falcons have the second-most cap space available and could provide the four-year pro with the big multi-year deal he is looking for. Keep in mind that Meyers grew up in Georgia, too, which makes the chance of him joining London and Pitts to form a dangerous trio even more likely.
