3 Biggest Wins Over the Packers in Vikings History

3 Biggest Wins Over the Packers in Vikings History

Updated:

The rivalry between the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings is a long-standing one, even though it wasn't especially competitive in the early years. The Packers won 9 of the first 10 meetings between the two teams in the 1960s, but things have been fairly even since, with the Vikings now holding a 54-62-3 all-time record versus Green Bay.

There have been some incredible moments on both sides of the rivalry, and these are the three biggest wins the Vikings have scored over the Packers.

Vikings Biggest Wins vs Packers

3. Sep. 28, 1986: Week 4

The Vikes throttled the Packers, 42-7, in Week 4 of the 1986 season. This is still the record for the most points and the biggest blowout win for the Vikings over the Pack. The game got way out of hand early, with Minnesota getting up 28-0 in the first quarter alone. Quarterback Tommy Kramer threw an incredible 6 touchdowns in this game as well.

2. Nov. 1, 2009: Week 8

This one might be Packers fans' least favorite game on the list. The Brett Favre-led Vikings had already defeated the Packers once in 2009, but this was Favre's first game back at Lambeau Field. The atmosphere clearly had him fired up, because he went off for 244 yards with 4 touchdowns and no interceptions in the game, out-playing Aaron Rodgers, who threw for 287 yards and 3 touchdowns, while getting sacked 6 times. This win helped the Vikings cruise to a 12-4 regular-season record, winning the NFC North.

1. Jan. 9, 2005: NFC Wild Card Round

The 2004 NFL Wild Card Round was the first time the Packers and Vikings ever met in the postseason. Green Bay came in as the No. 1 seed in the NFC North, so the Vikes were underdogs at Lambeau after going 0-2 against the Packers in the regular season. Daunte Culpepper came out on fire though, throwing 2 touchdowns in the first six minutes of the game as the Vikes got out to a 17-0 lead. Culpepper ultimately threw 4 touchdowns in the win, with 2 going to Randy Moss. The second of those Moss scores also famously led to "a disgusting act," when he mimed mooning the Lambeau Field crowd.
