3 Best NFL Quarterbacks to Ever Come Out of Oklahoma
By Zach Brunner
The Oklahoma Sooners football program is considered one of the most elite football programs in the nation. They continue to field terrific talent Saturdays and send tremendous players into the NFL. One of the positions the Sooners have excelled at is quarterback.
These are the three greatest NFL quarterbacks to come out of the Oklahoma program.
3. Kyler Murray, 2019-Present
This may be a controversial one, since Kyler Murray has played only one season in the NFL, but he has accomplished more than many of the perpetual backup quarterbacks out of Oklahoma have. The 2019 first overall draft pick had an up and down rookie season. Despite being sacked 48 times (third-most in NFL), Murray completed 64.4 percent of his passes for 3,722 yards, 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He added another 544 yards and four touchdowns with his legs. He projects to be a terrific quarterback for years to come.
2. Baker Mayfield, 2018-Present
Baker Mayfield took the NFL by storm in 2018, passing for 3,725 yards and 27 touchdowns, while completing 63.8 percent of his passes. He had a bit of a sophomore slump in 2019, passing for just 22 touchdowns to 21 interceptions, but there were many factors that contributed to the regression. Still, he has already shown to be one of the best to come out of Oklahoma, and his level of focus this offseason looks like he is ready to prove it consistently.
1. Sam Bradford, 2010-18
Say what you want about Sam Bradford, but the reality is that he was a eight-year starter in the NFL. Wearing jerseys for four different teams, Bradford passed for a total of 19,449 yards, 103 touchdowns and 61 interceptions. He completed 62.5 percent of his career passes, but that spiked to 71.8 percent completion rate during his two-year stint in Minnesota. Bradford is the most accomplished quarterback to come out of Oklahoma, so far.
