2023 Preakness Odds Updated With Scratches on FanDuel Sportsbook After First Mission Drops Out

The 148th running of the Preakness Stakes is set for a 7:01 p.m. ET post time on Saturday, May 20 at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. With just a little more than 24 hours until the race, horses, jockeys, trainers, and fans are preparing for the next leg of the Triple Crown.

Earlier this week, the post positions were announced for the Preakness Stakes, a field that included only eight horses and Mage being the only one that also ran in the Kentucky Derby.

Preakness Scratches 2023 (Updated May 19)

Friday morning provided us with the first scratch of the race, bringing the total participants down to just seven horses, and the smallest Preakness field since 1986. First Mission, the previous second favorite in the odds and the top contender to dethrone Mage, was scratched by trainer Brad Cox. First Mission's team pointed to a left-hind ankle injury as the cause for the decision.

First Mission was set to run on the outside in the No. 8 post position prior to the scratch. The list of scratched horses can be found below, along with what their last odds were.
