2023 Preakness Exacta and Trifecta Picks and Predictions on FanDuel Racing

Updated:

It's time to determine your type of bets for the 2023 Preakness Stakes. The 148th edition of the Triple Crown race at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore came up with a softer field of eight runners.

There are just 2-3 viable win contenders for this year's Preakness, so a win wager on the favorite and Kentucky Derby winner Mage will offer little return on your bet.

So beyond Win-Place-Show betting, here is a way to add more bang for your buck while isolating a horse to win in Exacta and Trifecta bets.

1. Exacta

Check out the Preakness best bets along with dark horses and you'll see the viable list of horses that are win contenders. A $5 exacta box of 3 horses costs $30 with #3 Mage (8/5), #8 First Mission (5/2), and #1 National Treasure (4/1). It won't return too much, but the race just doesn't offer up much else for the top two places. You may also isolate a horse on top to win like First Mission and add Mage, National Treasure, and Red Route One (10/1) to come in second, and a $5 exacta would cost $15 and reduce risk while hitting a decent return if First Mission wins.

2. Trifecta

Pick the horses in order to come in 1st, 2nd and 3rd and you'll cash in the Trifecta. Isolate #8 First Mission on top to win with #3 Mage and #1 National Treasure to finish second with #3 Mage, #1 National Treasure, #5 Red Route One and #6 Perform to come in third. That $4 trifecta costs $24.
