2023 Kentucky Derby Exacta and Trifecta Picks and Predictions

It's time to bet the 2023 Kentucky Derby, which should have good weather and a fast track in Louisville on Saturday. The May 6 Run for the Roses is filled with a number of leading contenders and longshots to fill out a wide-open race.

Unfortunately, more horses have scratched this week including leading contender Practical Move and a potential dark horse pick Skinner.

1. Tapit Trice (5/1)

Tapit Trice is a major win contender who will come from off the pace and have a good shot to cash in a top-3 finish to figure in the Exacta and Trifecta. Tapit Trice has won 4-straight races entering the Kentucky Derby, including the Blue Grass Stakes. He's shown improved speed and has Classic breeding as a son of Tapit, who has sired many Triple Crown winners and top-3 finishers.

2. Derma Sotogake (10-1)

When UAE Derby winner Derma Sotogake hits the board as a Derby dark horse, he'll snap a long streak of losers who have failed in the Run for the Roses coming out of the UAE Derby. This horse is different with superb speed and visually the best win on the Kentucky Derby trail. Add Derma Sotogake as a key horse to win or finish runner-up, and you'll be counting plenty of cash when you hit the Exacta and Trifecta.

3. Forte (3/1)

Forte is the most proven horse in the 2023 Kentucky Derby. The champion 2-year-old is 6-for-7 after winning the Fountain of Youth stakes followed by the Florida Derby. Thus he's the favorite, but won't return too much if he wins the Run for the Roses. But most experts will have some exposure on Forte, and especially using him underneath in your Exacta and Trifecta bets.
