Super Bowl 57 Ref Choice is Terrible News for Chiefs

Updated:

The Kansas City Chiefs are preparing for a huge AFC Championship Game matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. While the Chiefs have to get through Joe Burrow first, an even bigger obstacle could be waiting for them in the Super Bowl if they make it to the big game.

Super Bowl 57 Referees

The NFL announced the referees for Super Bowl 57 on Tuesday, and Kansas City fans may not like one of the selections, specifically Carl Cheffers as referee.

Cheffers has a notable history of being tough on the Chiefs, as we outlined in a story earlier this season on The Duel. Over 21 percent of the Chiefs' penalties during the regular season were called in only two games, both of which were refereed by Cheffers.

It certainly seems like Cheffers has it out for Kansas City, so the Chiefs will have to try and play the cleanest football possible if they want to make the Super Bowl.

That said, they'll have to get through the Bengals first with a hobbled Patrick Mahomes, who's currently dealing with an ankle injury. That may be why Kansas City is currently listed as a 1.5-point home underdog against Cincinnati on FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds.
