Spain's men's national soccer team is finally back in the FIFA World Cup for the 12th consecutive tournament. Spain officially kicks off its run with a match against Costa Rica on Wednesday, the first of three for La Roja versus Group E opponents.

Here's everything you need about Spain's history in the World Cup before play begins.

Spain World Cup Appearances

This year marks the 16th all-time appearance for the Spanish men's national soccer team. Spain previously qualified for this tournament in 1934, 1950, 1962, 1966, 1978, 1982, 1986, 1990, 1994, 1998, 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2018.

La Roja's appearance in 2018 was its most recent prior to this year, however, the Spanish failed to make it beyond the Round of 16 for the third time in their last four appearances.

The 2026 World Cup will be Spain's 17th appearance if the country qualifies.
