Saints vs Texans Preseason Game Info

2022 NFL Preseason Game
New Orleans Saints (0-0) vs. Houston Texans (0-0)
Date: Saturday, August 13, 2022
Time: 8 p.m. ET
Venue: NRG Stadium — Houston, TX
Coverage: NFL+ App

Week 1 of the NFL preseason includes a showdown between the New Orleans Saints and Houston Texans. With Sean Peyton gone, head coach Dennis Allen looks to help the Saints to return to prominence following a 9-8 record in 2021.

Meanwhile, the Texans are hoping to start HC Lovie Smith's tenure on the right foot. His last coaching job in Tampa Bay was anything but impressive, leaving this preseason matchup as a way for him to prove to fans that things will be different.

Saints vs Texans Odds & Spread

All NFL preseason betting lines, odds and prop bets are from FanDuel Sportsbook.
Moneyline: NO: (-110) | HOU: (-110)
Spread: NO: -1 (-105) | HOU: +1 (-115)
Total: 33.5 — Over: (-110) | Under: (-110)

The Saints and Texans enter the matchup both with -110 odds on the moneyline, however, it's New Orleans that's the 1-point spread favorite. This 8 p.m. ET clash also features a total of 33.5, which is in the middle of the pack compared to other games this week.

Saints vs Texans Prediction & Pick

The Saints are the type of team that plays well in the preseason, going 6-4 straight up in their last 10 exhibition games. Though Ian Book is hardly promising under center, New Orleans has a deep roster with several new wide receivers that they'd love to audition. If Book surprises people and gets things rolling early on, a victory is within reach.

On the other hand, Davis Mills will likely get the start for the Texans. He has an improved offensive line in front of him now that rookie guard Kenyon Green is here, plus the defense should also be improved thanks to the likes of 2022 third overall pick Derek Stingley Jr.

It'll be a close one, but I think the Saints will narrowly edge the Texans out here.

Final Score Prediction: Saints: 16 | Texans: 13

Saints vs Texans Best Bet

All NFL preseason betting lines, odds and prop bets are available on FanDuel Sportsbook.

With the players that both teams will be trotting out, I don't expect this game to be a high-scoring affair. The Saints are quite defensively sound and most of their top offensive playmakers will likely be absent. With the Texans not boasting too much offensive potential, I'll take the under here.

Bet: Bears Under 33.5 Points (-110)
