The Sacramento Kings are officially headed back to the NBA Playoffs for the first time since 2006 after a surprising 2022-23 season. Head coach Mike Brown's squad has its sights set on proving the doubters wrong with a run to the Finals, but first up is a series against the Golden State Warriors.

What Seed Are the Kings in the 2023 NBA Playoffs?

The Kings ended the 2022-23 regular season with a 48-34 record, which was good enough to finish No. 3 in the Western Conference. As is tradition, the 3-seed faces the 6-seed in the first round of the playoffs. The Warriors concluded the campaign as the No. 6 team in the West with a 44-38 record.

It's worth noting that Golden State actually tied with the Los Angeles Clippers -- who also had a 44-38 record -- but the Clippers won the head-to-head tiebreaker. That placed LA ahead of Golden State in the final standings. This is the first time the Kings and Warriors will meet in a postseason series.

Who Are the Kings Playing in the 2023 Playoffs?

As the 3-seed, the Kings will play the 6-seed Warriors in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. This will be a typical best-of-seven series that follows the 2-2-1-1-1 format. That means the better seed (Sacramento) will host Games 1 and 2, plus Games 5 and 7 if necessary. The worse seed (Golden State) will host Games 3 and 4, plus Game 6 if necessary.

Looking ahead, if the Kings win this series and advance, they would face either the 2-seed Memphis Grizzlies or the to-be-determined 7-seed in the Western Conference semifinals, as the NBA playoff matchups do not re-seed in each round.
