Mike McDaniel Has Hilarious Quote About Jaylen Waddle's Potential

Updated:

Wide receiver Jaylen Waddle set a rookie record with 104 catches this past season and looked like a true No. 1 option for the Miami Dolphins. New head coach Mike McDaniel thinks he could be even better in 2022 and had a hilarious quote when asked about the WR's potential.

McDaniel joined the "Dan Le Batard Show" and expressed his expectation that Waddle's production will stay high moving forward. He knows that the former Alabama standout has already taken on a leadership role in the locker room, which is huge for his development as a playmaker.

Waddle's athleticism and sheer speed sets him up for a crucial role in McDaniel's system. Keep in mind the former San Francisco 49ers' offensive coordinator guided WR-turned-RB Deebo Samuel to a breakout year in 2021. Samuel racked up 1,770 yards from scrimmage and scored 14 touchdowns.

It wouldn't be surprising to see Waddle used in a similar role, especially since most of his production this past season came from his ability to rack up yards after the catch. The 23-year-old only connected with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa on four passes with over 20-plus air yards.

Waddle finished as the WR13 in PPR scoring leagues and will likely be ranked in the top 10 at the position next fall. It certainly seems like he would be McDaniel's first-round pick. The Dolphins will aim to upgrade their roster in the offseason in order to secure a playoff berth for the first time since 2016.
