3 Most Likely Destinations for Melvin Gordon at the NFL Trade Deadline

Running back Melvin Gordon has been making the most out of his opportunity in Denver this season, racking up 545 yards from scrimmage to go along with 5 touchdowns. The only problem is that Broncos' rookie Javonte Williams is only getting better and Gordon is set to become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason.

A number of teams could use Gordon's seven seasons of NFL experience and it makes sense for the Broncos to trade him for the right value. With that in mind, here are three of the most likely trade destinations for Gordon at the NFL Trade Deadline.

1. Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks find themselves in the middle of an up-and-down season, yet there is still hope. Seattle remains the the race for an NFC Wild Card spot and quarterback Russell Wilson is expected to return in a few weeks or so. With starting running back Chris Carson still sidelined with a neck injury, acquiring Gordon via a trade should be a goal for this front office. The Seahawks are averaging just 24.5 rushing attempts per game (No. 20 in NFL) and posting 4.2 yards per carry (T-No. 17 in NFL). They could use a boost in the backfield and Gordon has scored 48 touchdowns in 80 career starts. Simply put, he knows what it takes to get the job done.

2. Los Angeles Chargers

Gordon spent his first five NFL seasons as a Charger and it wouldn't be shocking to see his former team trade for him on Tuesday. It's become clear that the Chargers lack a complementary back to play alongside starter Austin Ekeler. In fact, the team's trio of backup running backs have combined for just 196 rushing yards on the season. Gordon could fill that role to a T and already knows what it is like to play with Ekeler. The 28-year-old is also averaging 5.1 yards per touch this season, which is his highest mark since 2018. Giving quarterback Justin Herbert another offensive weapon to work with would be a smart move.

3. Tennessee Titans

It would be surprising to see the Tennessee Titans let the trade deadline pass without making a single move at the running back position. The team just lost a superstar talent in Derrick Henry for 6-10 weeks with a foot injury and need all the help they can get. The Titans signed veteran Adrian Peterson, but making a move for Gordon would give them RB capable of taking on a workhorse role. Gordon averages 4.5 yards per carry this season and has seen double-digit touches in every game he has played. He would make a great addition on a team that currently ranks No. 1 in the NFL with 32.5 rushing attempts per game.
