How Baker Mayfield's Trade to Panthers Impacts Betting Odds on FanDuel Sportsbook

Even calling this "news" probably under-sells just how much it was rumored and clearly going to happen for most of the offseason, but Baker Mayfield has officially been traded to the Carolina Panthers.

A serviceable QB at times who never lived up to the first-overall pick hype with the Cleveland Browns, Mayfield should easily step in and take starting quarterback duties away from Sam Darnold in Carolina.

This move may grab headlines, but the NFL betting markets on FanDuel Sportsbook show that it really doesn't move the needle.

Panthers Super Bowl Odds

The Panthers had +8500 odds to win the Super Bowl before the trade, and now those have actually fallen slightly to +10000. That's a pretty insignificant difference though, moving them from 1.2% implied probability to 1.0%.

Baker Mayfield MVP Odds

Baker's MVP odds haven't shifted a lick either, and he remains at +7500 — tying him with the likes of Justin Fields, Carson Wentz and Cooper Kupp.

Baker Mayfield Comeback Player of the Year Odds

One interesting line that also didn't shift are Mayfield's odds to win Comeback Player of the Year. He was tied for fourth at +1000 before the trade, and remains at +1000 following it.

This lack of shifts doesn't necessarily mean the trade doesn't change anything, though. Betting markets aren't stupid, and the fact that he was probably going to end up a Panther had already been factored into these lines.

Browns vs Panthers Week 1 Odds

The most high-profile betting line that Browns and Panthers fans will have circled are the odds for the Browns-Panthers Week 1 showdown, however. FanDuel Sportsbook has the Browns as a very slight 1-point road favorite in that one.
