Lions Week 1 Opponent for 2023 Season

The Detroit Lions' Week 1 matchup for the 2023 campaign will be against the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. This cross-conference matchup will air on Thursday Night Football and will take place at Arrowhead Stadium.

Lions' 2023 Strength of Schedule

According to Sharp Football Analysis, the Lions have the eighth-easiest schedule in the NFL for the 2023-24 season. This is based on the projected win totals of Detroit's opponents for the upcoming campaign. That bodes well for Detroit's chances of success considering six of the teams with a top-seven schedule in terms of ease last year made the playoffs. The Lions are on the brink of that mark.

The Lions' 2023-24 opponents went a combined 119-119 last season. They'll face a trio of teams in the Chicago Bears, Denver Broncos, and Las Vegas Raiders that lost at least 11 games during the 2022-23 campaign.

FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds currently list the Lions at 9.5 wins, with -122 odds on the over and +100 odds on the under. Detroit has failed to tally at least 10 wins in each of the last eight NFL seasons, last logging double-digit victories in 2014.

The Lions surprised everyone by finishing with a winning record last season (9-8) and there's a lot to like about the chances of them replicating that success in 2023. Detroit's offense ranked as one of the best in the NFL even before the front office went out and drafted a pair of impactful rookies in running back Jahmyr Gibbs and tight end Sam LaPorta. While some defensive question marks remain, the Lions are not stuck in the same division as quarterback Aaron Rodgers anymore and will face eight teams in the fall that posted losing records last year. There's a path to a 10-win campaign.

Bet – Lions: Over 9.5 Wins (-122)

In the Super Bowl market, the Lions currently check in with the ninth-best odds at +2200. They rank above every other NFC North squad and only trail the Philadelphia Eagles (+850), San Francisco 49ers (+950), and Dallas Cowboys (+1400) in the NFC.
