The NBA's Monday, Jan. 2 schedule includes an interesting matchup at crypto.com Arena as the Miami Heat (19-18) pay a visit to the LA Clippers (21-17).

The Heat ended 2022 on a high note, defeating the Utah Jazz with a 126-123 victory on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Clippers hope to get back into the win column tonight, losing 131-130 to the Indiana Pacers over the weekend to mark their second of back-to-back losses.

Can the Heat beat Los Angeles for the second time this season? Or will the Clippers stop their skid before it lengthens?

Clippers vs. Heat Betting Trends

  • The Clippers put together a 38-42-2 record against the spread last season.
  • Against the spread, as underdogs of 5 points or more, the Heat went 8-3 last year.
  • Clippers games went over the point total 40 out of 82 times last season.
  • Last season, 46 of the Heat's 82 games hit the over.

Clippers vs. Heat Prediction & Pick

I like the Clippers' chances of walking out with the victory tonight. Although they've lost back-to-back contests, returning to crypto.com Arena will give them a boost. After all, LA is 4-1 straight up in its last five home games, holding opponents to a 98.0 PPG clip over that span.

While the Heat have won three of their last four games, those victories came against the Jazz, Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves — all teams with sub-.500 records. Making matters worse, Miami has lost three straight road games to the Clippers, having not beaten the latter in Los Angeles since December 2018.

The icing on the cake is that the Clippers will have Kawhi Leonard in the lineup tonight. His absence was a big reason why they lost to the Heat last month. Los Angeles is 11-5 straight up when Leonard plays this season and with his averaging 23.0 points on 53.0% shooting in his last eight games, I see his presence leading the Clippers to victory.

Final Score Prediction: Clippers: 112 | Heat: 105

Clippers vs. Heat Best Bet

With the total sitting at 219 points, I'm expecting a low-scoring affair tonight. First of all, the Clippers and Heat have the No. 28 and No. 30 offenses, respectively, this season, only scoring a combined 218.7 points.

Furthermore, the total has gone under in 15 of the Clippers' 18 home games thus far. With key Miami players like Duncan Robinson (hamstring), Jimmy Butler (knee) and Caleb Martin (quad) all dealing with injuries and varying statuses heading into tonight's matchup, I'm even more inclined to back the under.

Bet: Under 219 Points (-110)
