Cam Akers Fantasy Outlook Soars Following Week 3 Performance

After the first two weeks of the 2022 NFL season, fantasy managers wondered if Cam Akers' best days were behind him. After all, the Los Angeles Rams running back — who began the year fresh off an Achilles tear — only scored 8.2 fantasy points in PPR, good for an RB59 rank ahead of Week 3.

Fast forward to Monday and managers are feeling a lot more confident in Akers' fantasy outlook. The 23-year-old rushed for 61 yards and a touchdown in the Rams' 20-12 victory over the Arizona Cardinals, causing his outlook to soar heading into Week 4.

On top of his solid stat line, Akers also saw 12 carries. That's eight more than fellow Rams RB Darrell Henderson despite the two playing the same number of snaps (24) — an encouraging sign for the 23-year-old's fantasy outlook.

Now, Akers' performance was far from perfect. He did wind up losing a fumble once, so ball security is something that he must work on. Having said that, he still finished with 10.1 points in PPR, having him ranked as the RB21 ahead of Monday Night Football.

Akers is a dynamic rusher when healthy, so hopefully his recent performance means any injury issues are behind him. Assuming that's the case, he's likely a top-36 RB at the moment with the potential of some top-24 upside due to his playing on an offensive juggernaut like the Rams.

The Rams have a tough Week 4 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers, who are allowing the ninth-fewest fantasy points to RBs this season. However, Akers did score 14.4 fantasy points in the lone full regular-season game he's played against the 49ers, so he's still playable (although, expectations should be tempered).
