The NFL world was turned upside down on Wednesday when All-Pro wide receiver Deebo Samuel informed the San Francisco 49ers that he would like to be traded. Any team looking for an upgrade on the offensive side of the ball is going to be a potential suitor and that includes the Detroit Lions.

Deebo Samuel Trade Rumors

NFL insider Ian Rapoport listed the Lions as a potential destination for Samuel along with another rebuilding squad in the New York Jets. It makes a lot of sense given Detroit's current No. 1 wideout is second-year pro Amon-Ra St. Brown. Samuel is the type of player that front offices go all-in for.

Samuel is coming off of the best season of his career after posting a whopping 1,770 yards from scrimmage and 14 touchdowns on 136 touches. He also led the NFL in yards per reception (18.2) and ranked second in yards after the catch (768). The 26-year-old's crazy capabilities were on full display.

It's not like the Lions don't have the capital to get a deal done, either. Detroit owns nine picks in the upcoming 2022 NFL Draft, which includes a pair of first-round selections, and has over $18 million in available cap space. It wouldn't take much to put together a package that would intrigue the 49ers.

Trading for the former South Carolina standout means that a contract extension may be on the table. That makes the decision to pull the trigger much harder given Spotrac lists Samuel's market value at $22.4 million per year. The Lions have been hesitant to meet those kind of demands in the past.

Detroit fans will have to stay patient to see whether or not head coach Dan Campbell gets a new weapon to use on offense moving forward.
