The New York Yankees are heading into a busy offseason, with plenty of potential changes to the roster coming. While there were questions initially about the future of both GM Brian Cashman and manager Aaron Boone, it seems both of their jobs are safe, despite the former currently working without a contract.

Luis Severino Team Option

One roster move Cashman did indicate would be made last week was the team picking up the contract option of starting pitcher Luis Severino. Today the Yankees made that move official, exercising the pitchers' option for the 2023 season, where he will earn $15 million.

While Severino has had his fair share of injury troubles the last few seasons, he can be a dominant pitcher when healthy. $15 million is a steal for a healthy Severino, making this move a no-brainer for the Yankees.

Although he once again missed significant time in 2022, Severino pitched to a 7-3 record with a 3.18 ERA in 19 starts. With his return, you assume Severino will reclaim his place as the Yankees' 2nd or 3rd starter, depending on what happens during free agency.

New York has rumored interest in both Astros ace Justin Verlander and Giants starter Carols Rodon.
