Updated Falcons QB Depth Chart After 2022 NFL Draft

Updated:

The 2022 NFL Draft was unprecedented in the fact that only one quarterback was taken within the first 70 overall picks. The Atlanta Falcons stopped the fall of Cincinnati's Desmond Ridder when they selected him toward the top of the third round and added some much-needed depth at the position.

Ridder was superb during his time with the Bearcats and told reporters following the draft that he believes Atlanta is a "perfect fit" for his talents. He also said he wants to lead his new team to a Super Bowl one day. With that being said, here's a look at the Falcons' updated QB depth chart for 2022.

Falcons QB Depth Chart 2022

1. Marcus Mariota

Ridder's excitement shouldn't draw fans away from the reality that Marcus Mariota was signed to a two-year deal worth nearly $19 million in free agency. He heads into training camp as the expected Week 1 starter. The 28-year-old owns a career record of 29-32, but has not started a game since the 2019 season. His ability to scramble for first downs should give the Falcons a spark at the QB position they never had with Matt Ryan.

2. Desmond Ridder

It's worth noting that Desmond ridder drew comparisons to Mariota throughout the draft process, which makes it fitting that the two signal-callers are now on the same roster. Ridder was nearly unstoppable during college and led Cincinnati to a 44-6 record as the starting QB. Overall, he passed for 10,239 yards, rushed for 2,180 yards and accounted for 116 total touchdowns across four seasons with the Bearcats. He has all the makings of an eventual NFL starter.

3. Feleipe Franks

Feleipe Franks is still somewhat new to the Falcons organization considering he has only spent one season with the team. Franks was Ryan's backup for the 2021 season, but did not throw a single pass. At 24 years old, there's still hope that Franks can turn into one of the best No. 2 QBs in the NFL. That would be a huge boost for Atlanta in case an injury were to occur.
