Torrey Pines History

The land that now houses Torrey Pines Golf Course used to be the home of a military training center called Camp Callan outside of San Diego. In 1956, roughly 1,000 acres of land were set aside to build a public golf course that became Torrey Pines. The North and South course were both completed by the end of that decade by William F. Bell, who was the original architect and idea man behind Torrey Pines prior to his death.
