Since Pete Carroll drafted Russell Wilson in 2012, only Tom Brady has more regular-season wins (95) than Wilson's 86. This ridiculously productive duo has relied on Wilson's magical playmaking and Carroll's usually-great defenses to build that record, though there's another unheralded trait that has heavily factored into those 86 wins.
Wilson and Carroll might be the best closers in football. In the Wilson-Carroll era (2012-present), the Seahawks are undefeated when entering halftime with more than a four-point lead.
According to Jake Heaps, the Seahawks are a staggering 56-0 on such occasions. We found slightly different numbers (51-0) when running the query on Pro Football Reference, but it doesn't change the fact that the Seahawks are the league's lone undefeated team under those circumstances.
The New England Patriots have a league-high 74 wins in such games, but they've also dropped seven. In fact, all 31 other NFL teams have lost at least three games, and none have won more than 94.0 percent under those circumstances.
With a run-heavy attack and historically great defenses, it shouldn't be a surprise that Seattle has been dominant when protecting leads. Exactly how dominant Russell and Carroll have been, though, is rather staggering.
