Preakness 2023 Weather: Saturday Forecast at Pimlico Race Course Features Threat of Rain

The 2023 Preakness Stakes is set for a 7:01 p.m. ET post time on Saturday, May 20 at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland.

Everyone will have their eyes on Mage as the Kentucky Derby winner hopes to complete the second leg of the Triple Crown. The weather is one thing to monitor ahead of the event, as it has the potential to greatly affect any horse race.

Preakness Weather

As of Friday afternoon, the forecast for the 2023 Preakness is a wet one. While temperatures are expected to reach the high 70s during the day, by the time the race rolls around just before 7 p.m. there is a good chance of precipitation.

As always, predicting rain can be a fickle and fluid situation from hour to hour, so there's no guarantee we will be getting a rainy Preakness, but if things hold as they are forecast now, that's a very real possibility.

In total for the day tomorrow there is a 40% chance of rain, officially predicting "scattered showers." So even if we do get a rain tomorrow, it doesn't sound like it will be a downpour, and to avoid rain during the race, it just has to hold off for roughly three minutes.

If the rain never gets too heavy, or at least holds off until after the race, these conditions shouldn't have too much effect, but if we get more rain than expected, or it begins earlier, we could be looking at a muddy second leg of the Triple Crown.
