Oilers vs Golden Knights Prediction, Odds & Best Bet for NHL Playoffs Game 1 (Edmonton's Firepower Shines in Vegas)

Updated:

The 2022-23 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs continue on Wednesday, May 3 as the Edmonton Oilers and Vegas Golden Knights are set to play Game 1 of their second-round series.

Oilers vs Golden Knights Game 1 Info

  • Series: Series tied 0-0
  • Date: Wednesday, May 3, 2023
  • Time: TBD
  • Venue: T-Mobile Arena -- Las Vegas, Nevada
  • Coverage: TBD

The Pacific Division-leading Golden Knights are back in the second round after sending the Winnipeg Jets home in five games. Meanwhile, the Oilers dealt with a couple of hiccups in Round 1 but still managed to move past the Los Angeles Kings with a 4-2 series victory.

Edmonton and Vegas clashed four times during the regular season, ending with the Oilers standing tall three times. Will the outcome of this series be any different?

Oilers vs Golden Knights Odds & Spread

  • All NHL betting lines, odds and prop bets are from FanDuel Sportsbook.
  • Moneyline: EDM: (-110) | VGK: (-110)
  • Spread: EDM: +1.5 (-255) | VGK: -1.5 (+205)
  • Total: 6.5 -- Over: (-114) | Under: (-106)

The Golden Knights enter this contest as home favorites on the spread while the moneyline is a pick 'em scenario per FanDuel Sportsbook's odds. This second-round postseason clash also features an over/under of 6.5 goals with the Over being favored at -114 odds.

Oilers vs Golden Knights Betting Trends

  • Edmonton is 9-1 straight up in its last 10 road games.
  • Vegas is 14-4 straight up in its last 18 home games.
  • The total has hit the Over in four of Edmonton's last six games.
  • The total has hit the Over in four of Vegas' last five games.

Oilers vs Golden Knights Prediction & Pick

Both sides are rolling into this second round series. The Oilers won three consecutive games to close out their series and have also won 11 of their previous 13 road outings. Meanwhile, on top of a four-game winning streak, the Golden Knights are an impressive 14-4 straight up in their previous 18 home contests.

Unfortunately for Vegas, it's on a losing streak to Edmonton at T-Mobile Arena. The Golden Knights haven't beaten the Oilers on their home ice since February 2020, losing four straight clashes in Sin City. Even worse is that the Golden Knights have allowed 4.75 goals per game while going 0-for-9 on the power play over that span.

The Oilers are also backed by the dynamic trio of Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and Evan Bouchard, who combined for 31 points in Round 1. For reference, the Dallas Stars' top 5 scorers combined for that many points against the Minnesota Wild. At the end of the day, Vegas is going to have problems matching that production.

I'll take the Oilers winning a back-and-forth collision.

Final Score Prediction: Oilers: 5 | Golden Knights: 4

Oilers vs Golden Knights Best Bet

The Oilers are one of the most exciting NHL teams from an offensive perspective and I don't see them having an issue surpassing a 3.5-goal total in Game 1. After all, they averaged 4.17 goals against the Kings, finishing with 4+ markers in each of the final three contests. Furthermore, Edmonton has also gone over 3.5 goals in four of their last five clashes with Vegas.

The Oilers' top offensive creators aren't showing any signs of slowing down, so expect more of the same to open this series.

Bet: Oilers Total Goals — Over 3.5 (+122)
