The NFL Trade Deadline kicked off with a bang. On Thursday night, the Carolina Panthers sent star running back Christian McCaffrey to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a load of future draft capital.
In what's likely just the first of many blockbuster move before Nov. 1's official deadline, the NFL insiders over at The Athletic picked one player most likely to be traded from each franchise. Josh Kendall made his choice for the Atlanta Falcons.
Kendall explains that the Falcons are in a precarious spot heading into the deadline, highlighted by a league-high $77.1 million in dead money, the tam "can hardly afford to give up any of the talent they do have." One option is backup center Matt Hennessy.
Just a year after starting 17 games, and two years removed from his third-round draft selection, Hennessy was replaced by Drew Dalman on the depth chart. Kendall believes teams may be interested in Atlanta's depth because of Atlanta's good "success up front this year."
The offensive line has been a great story for head coach Arthur Smith's squad. Entering the year with zero expectations, Atlanta ranks fourth in rushing yards and the 17th-fewest sacks allowed. Kendall believes this could spell enough intrigue for some teams in desperate need of a center to come calling.
For now, the Falcons sit at 3-3 on the year and hold +600 odds to win the NFC South on FanDuel Sportsbook.
