Kia Super Bowl 2023 Commercial Showcases Binky Dad's Larger-Than-Life Adventure

Updated:

Another Super Bowl is upon us, which means plenty of star-studded commercials are on the way. Kia got in on the fun to promote the new 2023 Telluride X-Pro SVU, using an ad featuring a character nicknamed "Binky Dad" as he treks across the country for his baby.

The Kia ad opens with a father and mother checking in at a hotel with their baby. Their vacation is sent into chaos once the father realizes that he forgot his child's binky (pacifier) at home. As he runs to his SUV to leave, a woman is seen live streaming him, saying "Tragic. #BinkyDad."

What makes things even more epic is that "Gonna Fly Now" by Bill Conti — the Rocky franchise's theme song — plays as the chase begins.

As Binky Dad drives home, everyone starts to root for him — including a pair of road workers helping him get around a downed tree. Patrons at a restaurant even hear about Binky Dad on a newscast before the subject in question drives his SUV out of a concrete pipe to beat a traffic jam.

Binky Dad even drives through Los Angeles with a police escort before taking a shortcut across an unnamed football team's field. Eventually, he retrieves the binky from his home where he's met by dozens of cheering onlookers.

When a relieved Binky Dad returns to the hotel with the green pacifier, he's met with some bad news. His daughter immediately spits out the binky before the wife clarifies that "she only likes the blue one."

Kia puts in big letters that the Telluride X-Pro SVU is "for larger-than-life adventures" at the end of the commercial. It's fitting considering how parents know all too well what it's like when they're on a trip, only to realize that they forgot their child's favorite anything.

It wouldn't be shocking if Binky Dad became an icon for new parents out there. After all, raising kids is tough and having a relatable — yet hilarious — commercial can help ease that stress, knowing that others are going through the same thing.
