Justin Herbert Injury Update Creates Major Headache for Week 3 Fantasy Outlook

Updated:

The idea of being a "game-time decision" is never something fantasy managers want to have their starting quarterback connected to. That is the case with Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 3, though. He remains questionable to play against the Jacksonville Jaguars with a rib issue.

Herbert's status on Sunday is simply going to come down to how he feels in pregame warmups. He was diagnosed with fractured rib cartilage after taking nasty hit in a Week 2 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. The 24-year-old did finish out the rest of the contest, but was playing through obvious pain.

Backup Chase Daniel took all of the first-team reps during practice on Friday as Herbert took as much time as he could to rest. He's pushing hard to go and if he does, he should be in your starting lineup. Coaches don't have the option of putting QBs on a snap count like they do with other skill players.

Jacksonville is allowing the eighth-most fantasy points to opposing QB ins 2022 and in his only career game against the Jaguars, Herbert threw for 347 yards, 3 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. He could ball out on Sunday, but it is important for fantasy managers to have a backup plan ready to go.

The 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff makes it tough here. A lot of streaming QB options will have already played at that point. Picking up Jimmy Garoppolo, Daniel Jones or Cooper Rush is the best move here. Each QB has a later kickoff time than Herbert and is owned in under 50% of Yahoo! fantasy leagues.
