Josh Taylor vs Teofimo Lopez Odds, Prediction & How to Watch (Lopez Makes a Statement)

Updated:

On June 10, Josh Taylor is set to defend his WBO and The Ring super lightweight titles against Teofimo Lopez at Madison Square Garden's Hulu Theater. Lopez is a former champion himself but lost the belts in a loss to George Kambosos back in 2021. He has won two straight fights at this weight class since then.

Taylor comes in undefeated and the holder of two belts, but Lopez has the ability to make both of these guys walk out of the ring with the same record. He's back on track after a two-fight winning streak and is certainly isn't someone the British champion cannot take lightly.

All boxing odds, lines and prop bets are available on FanDuel Sportsbook.
Moneyline:
- Taylor: (-174)
- Lopez: (+136)
- Draw: (+1600)

Method of Victory:
- Taylor by KO/TKO: (+260)
- Taylor by Points or Decision: (+175)
- Lopez by KO/TKO: (+500)
- Lopez by Points or Decision: (+270)

Despite both fighters' accomplishments, the champ comes in as the favorite here. Lopez is +136 on the moneyline, though, so the oddsmakers are hardly counting him out. Oddsmakers also favor the win coming by decision for either fighter rather than a knockout or TKO.

Taylor vs Lopez Prediction & Best Bet

It makes sense why Taylor is the favorite given that he's undefeated and the current champion, but things are much closer in the odds than one would think in a title fight against an undefeated boxer.

That's for good reason, as Lopez is great and was considered a phenom prior to losing his belts. After two consecutive wins, the oddsmakers are giving him a puncher's chance. This odds breakdown is having me side with Lopez.

Even Lopez's sole loss came on a split decision, so he's as close to undefeated as you can get. If he was coming into this fight, he might even be the favorite here. Neither fighter has been a knockout artist of late with both winning by KO/TKO just once in their last five fights.

Taylor has said he plans to knock out Lopez inside of eight rounds, but that alone says the first few rounds might be a feel-out period. I expect Lopez to be calculated against the champ, knowing one punch could end it.

As long as the pace is slower, Lopez is cautious and will pick his spots, so he should be able to come away with a points win here. He has both the physical ability and technical prowess to take down Taylor and walk away as the champ once again.

Bet: Lopez by Points/Decision (+270)
