Castaneda vs Gafurov Prediction

John Castaneda was originally supposed to face Mateus Mendonca this weekend, but now Muin Gafurov takes the latter's place. Regardless of who his opponent is, Castaneda could use a win after suffering a second-round knockout loss to Daniel Santos at UFC Vegas 61.

This fight also serves as Gafurov's return. After losing to Chad Anheliger by split decision on Dana White's Contender Series 2021, Gafurov earned himself back-to-back knockout wins over Herbeth Reis de Sousa and Diego Silva.

Although Castaneda is the favorite, I smell an upset. Gafurov is a finishing machine, picking up 17 of his 18 career wins by either knockout or submission. Castaneda's two UFC losses also came when he was heavily out-struck, which will likely be the case again as Gafurov attempts to prove himself.
