The official start to training camps around the league this week means we're one step closer to the 2022 NFL season. It's been over five months since the Los Angeles Rams won Super Bowl LVI, so football fans are eager to see players take the field once again.
With that in mind, here's everything you need to know about the start of the 2022 NFL season.
When is the First NFL Game 2022
Training camps are the precursor to the preseason, as teams play a handful of tune-up games before kicking off in Week 1. Preseason action is scheduled to begin on Thursday, Aug. 4 with the annual Hall of Fame Game. This matchup will pit the Jacksonville Jaguars against the Las Vegas Raiders in the first taste of NFL action since February.
NFL Start Date
The final games of the preseason will take place on Sunday, Aug. 28. Then teams will have two weeks to prepare for their first regular season matchups, and they'll also be required to make final roster cuts to determine the 53-man group they're starting the year with.
The 2022 regular season officially begins on Thursday, Sept. 8 as the Buffalo Bills travel to face the defending champion Rams at SoFi Stadium.
How Many Days Until NFL Kickoff
The start to the 2022 regular season is drawing nearer as teams begin their preseason activities. The first Week 1 contest will feature the Bills vs. Rams on Thursday Night Football. Kickoff for that game is Sept. 8, meaning there are 49 days (as of July 21) until the season officially gets underway.
