Celtics vs. Hawks Prediction, Odds & Best Bet for NBA Playoffs Game 4 (Boston Bounces Back in Return to Normalcy)

Updated:

The 2022-23 NBA Playoffs continue on Sunday with Game 4 of the first-round series between the Boston Celtics and Atlanta Hawks.

Celtics vs. Hawks Game Info

  • Date: Sunday, April 23, 2023
  • Time: 7:00 p.m. ET
  • Venue: State Farm Arena -- Atlanta, Georgia
  • Coverage: TNT, BSSE, and NBCS-BOS

After dropping the first two games in Boston by double-digits, the Hawks rebounded in Game 3 on their home court. Atlanta's offense came alive on Friday night, riding a 74-point first half to a 130-122 victory.

With the series now at 2-1, can the Hawks even things up on Sunday? Or will the Celtics take a commanding 3-1 lead back to Boston?

Hawks vs. Celtics Betting Trends

  • The Celtics compiled a 43-37-2 record against the spread last season.
  • Against the spread, as underdogs of 5.5 points or greater, the Hawks went 3-6 last year.
  • Celtics games hit the over 41 out of 82 times last season.
  • In 82 Hawks games last year, 43 of them hit the over.

Hawks vs. Celtics Prediction & Pick

Almost everything went right for the Hawks in Game 3, as they played close to a perfect game. They finished the night with absurd 56/44/81 shooting splits, which will be tough to replicate in Game 4.

And yet, the Celtics were right there with them for most of the game. Boston came up short on the end, but Game 3 proved why it's so difficult to sweep a playoff series in the NBA. Even when you're the better team, it's still really hard to win four games in a row, especially when two of those are on the road.

That said, expect the Celtics to get back on track in Game 3. The Hawks' shooting will regress and they won't come close to scoring 130 points again, especially after averaging 103 points during the first two games. Boston allowed just 111.4 points per game during the regular season (fifth in NBA), so expect the Celtics' defense to clamp down and have more success in Game 4.

Final Score Prediction: Celtics: 116 | Hawks: 108

Hawks vs. Celtics Best Bet

The total being set so high feels like an overreaction to Game 3. There was only 211 total points in Game 1 and 225 points in Game 2, after all, so Game 3 was clearly an anomaly. Both teams settled down in the second half of Game 3 after their crazy start, too, combining for 111 points after halftime.

Expect a similar pace in Game 4 with around 220-230 points, resulting in the Under.

Bet: Under 232 Total Points (-112)
