Bills Hint Wide Receiver's Time in Buffalo Could Be Over

Updated:

The start of free agency has brought about several surprising breakups as teams look to free up cap space. The Buffalo Bills have a few decisions they can make in the coming days to lighten their books, but some of those could involve cutting ties with veteran players.

In fact, one longtime Bills member could have already played his last game at Highmark Stadium.

Buffalo GM Brandon Beane discussed the status of wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie, who has an upcoming $250K roster bonus, late Thursday evening. Beane complimented the slot weapon, but admitted there's an internal dialogue about McKenzie's talents overlapping too much with what they already have.

Beane said a decision will likely come "in the next couple of days," though the writing appears to be on the wall here. The team is legitimately haggling over McKenize's small roster bonus and noted he could be a "duplicate" within their offense. That doesn't sound too optimistic in regards to him returning.

McKenzie is coming off of a career showing in his sixth season, recording personal bests in receptions (42) and yards (423) while adding four touchdowns. However, 2022 rookie Khalil Shakir is an obvious candidate to take over McKenzie's role, which could make the latter expendable.
