Will Fuller Fantasy Points in Week 5 Ranks Top-10 All-Time Among Wide Receivers

It didn't take long for Houston Texans wide receiver Will Fuller to make it clear that Week 5's game against the Atlanta Falcons was going to be his breakout fantasy football performance of the season, as he found the end zone twice in the first half alone.

Fuller didn't slow down much in the second half either, finishing the game with 14 receptions (on 16 targets) for 217 yards and three touchdowns, racking up 53.7 PPR fantasy points. That's the ninth-highest, single-game total ever posted by a wide receiver.

The wide receiver had gotten off to an incredibly disappointing start to the 2019 season, hitting 10 fantasy points only once in his first four games while averaging 8.1 points per game in PPR formats.

There had been signs a bounce-back game was on the horizon though. Nobody could have predicted an explosion this big, but with 20 targets across his last three games and a team-high 27 percent market share of the Texans' air yards during that same span, Fuller was certainly threatening to have a breakout game.

And we got it against one of the weaker secondaries in the NFL, as the Atlanta Falcons ranked 21st in Football Outsiders' pass defense DVOA rankings heading into Week 5.

While this game was enough to push Fuller ahead of teammate DeAndre Hopkins in fantasy scoring for the season, it's safe to assume that Hopkins (who still leads the Texans with 44 targets) is going to remain the top fantasy WR in Houston.

Fuller is also likely to continue to have disappointing weeks scattered through his game log because of the boom-or-bust nature of his big-play scoring. But as he showed against Atlanta, it's worth taking a gamble on those down weeks since he also has the upside to single-handedly win you a fantasy matchup when he hits.
