White Sox Get Concerning News With Carlos Rodon Injury Update
If the Chicago White Sox hope to fulfill their World Series dreams, they'll need to rely on their elite lineup and imposing starting rotation. However, Chicago was dealt some concerning news as ace Carlos Rodon is dealing with renewed soreness in his pitching arm following Monday's start against the Detroit Tigers.
White Sox manager Tony La Russa spoke to media following the game and summed his and the team's thoughts up simply, "we're concerned."
Carlos Rodon Injury Update
Not only has Rodon already dealt with pitching arm soreness and fatigue this season, but his fastball velocity was the most concerning aspect of this unfolding situation.
The left-handed ace threw 3.0 innings on Monday night and his final fastball of the night hit just 89.4 mph. Earlier in the year, Rodon was easily averaging 95.3 mph, helping his career-best 12.8 strikeouts per nine innings mark.
In addition to concern for Rodon's velocity, the White Sox face a serious time crunch in this situation. The MLB season ends in less than two weeks. While Chicago closes in on an AL Central title, missing Rodon for the postseason could be devastating.
After all, the 28-year-old lefty is dealing at a Cy Young rate this season, pitching to a 2.47 ERA and 0.971 WHIP across 23 starts. Rodon is on the leaderboard for Cy Young award odds at FanDuel Sportsbook, spotting the fourth-best odds (+5500) across the league.
