What Can the Bears Expect to Get in a Trade for the No. 1 Overall Pick?
The Chicago Bears currently hold the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, but it's no guarantee that they are still in that spot when April 27 comes around. General manager Ryan Poles reiterated on Tuesday that the plan is to have quarterback Justin Fields be the starter for at least the 2023 season.
This year's draft class is filled with talented QBs such as Alabama's Bryce Young and Ohio State's CJ Stroud. That means an NFL team in need of help at the position could make a trade with Chicago and alter the future of the franchise. It's worth diving into what exactly that trade package could look like.
Bears Trade Rumors
The last time the No. 1 overall pick was traded was in 2016. The Los Angeles Rams gave up two first-round picks, two second-round picks and two third-round picks to acquire the No. 1 overall pick from the Tennessee Titans. The Titans also threw in a fourth-round pick and a sixth-round pick in the deal.
Keep in mind the Rams moved up all the way from No. 15 overall in that draft, so expect a lesser return for Chicago if it is able to stay within the top 10 picks. Back in 2001, the Falcons traded a first-round, second-round and third-round pick in order to trade up from No. 5 overall to No. 1 overall.
Staying within the top 10 picks would allow the Bears to draft a talented player that can make an immediate impact on the field. Teams within the top 10 picks of this draft with little depth at QB include the Indianapolis Colts (No. 4), Las Vegas Raiders (No. 7) and Carolina Panthers (No. 9).
No matter what, Chicago should be pushing to get a 2023 & 2024 first-rounder in return given the talent of the players up for selection. Including a few second, third or fourth-round picks depending on which team is on the other side of the trade is simply added bonuses for a rebuilding Bears squad.
