Week 6 Monday Night Football Fantasy Picks: Start 'Em, Sit 'Em for Broncos vs Chargers

The AFC West takes over Week 6's edition of Monday Night Football as the Denver Broncos travel to take on the Los Angeles Chargers. FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds list the Chargers as 4.5-point home favorites in a game that features exciting playmakers all over the field.

If you need some help with your fantasy lineups, here's our start 'em, sit 'em advice for this Week 6 Monday Night Football matchup.

Melvin Gordon Fantasy

Start Melvin Gordon, RB, Denver Broncos: The Broncos' best chance of winning this game is through running back Melvin Gordon and the rest of the rushing attack. The Chargers are allowing the most yards per carry in the NFL (5.8) and have given up a whopping 8 total touchdowns to opposing RBs. Those struggles have resulted in LA granting the most PPR fantasy points to the RB position through five weeks. Melvin Gordon is the clear-cut starter and leads all Broncos players with 12 red zone touches this season. He is dealing with a nagging neck and rib injuries, though, so having backup Mike Boone ready to go in case of a last-minute inactive ruling is crucial here.

Justin Herbert Fantasy

Start Justin Herbert, QB, Los Angeles Chargers: It's hard to be excited about the fantasy ceiling of almost any Chargers' weapons this week. Denver has been tough against both the pass and the run, but has yet to figure out how to stop quarterback Justin Herbert. Herbert has logged 1,071 passing yards, 8 touchdowns and 4 interceptions across four career clashes against the Broncos. He also averages well over 5.0 yards per carry when he tucks and runs against Denver. Herbert's floor remains one of the highest of any QB in fantasy football and managers should not hesitate to start him no matter how difficult the matchup lines up to be.

Denver Broncos D/ST Fantasy

Sit Denver Broncos D/ST: Very few defenses are matchup-proof in fantasy football and the Broncos are not one of them. Denver ranks as the eighth-highest scoring fantasy defense through five weeks, but runs into an offensive juggernaut in Week 6. The Chargers are averaging 390.4 yards per game (No. 4 in NFL) and 24.4 points per game (No. 8 in NFL) so far this season. As mentioned above, Herbert knows what it takes to dissect Denver's strong secondary and running back Austin Ekeler is coming off a game in which he posted a career-high 173 rushing yards. The way that scary one-two punch is playing right now makes it too risky to start Denver's D/ST this week.

Joshua Palmer Fantasy

Sit Joshua Palmer, WR, Los Angeles Chargers: Denver's secondary has proven to be one of the best in the NFL this season. The Broncos have given up the fewest yards to opposing wide receivers (654) and are one of only two teams to allow fewer than 2 touchdowns to the position. That does not bode well for Joshua Palmer's chances of balling out on primetime. Palmer looked like he was going to be a weekly FLEX option after scoring a touchdown in Week 2 and logging 99 yards in Week 3. However, the former Tennessee standout has tallied just 49 yards on 4 receptions over the last two weeks. Keep him stashed on your bench for now.
