Week 5 Fantasy Picks: Start 'Em, Sit 'Em for Giants vs Packers

Updated:
The NFL is heading to London for the second week in a row as the New York Giants face the Green Bay Packers at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in Week 5. FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds list the Packers as 8.5-point favorites in a game that could get out hand in the second half.
If you need some help with your fantasy lineups, here's our start 'em, sit 'em advice for this Week 5 NFC showdown.
Graham Gano Fantasy
Start Graham Gano, K, New York Giants: It's not often that a kicker is the top start recommendation for a team in fantasy football, but the Giants lack offensive playmakers right now. Running back Saquon Barkley is the only other player that has produced on a week-to-week basis. Of course, he's a no-doubt starter, though. Gano has scored at least 9 fantasy points in each of his last three games and has nailed 4 field goals from at least 50 yards during that span. New York has only scored a touchdown on half of their red zone trips this year (T-No. 23 in NFL), which is leading to more opportunities for Gano to rack up field goal attempts. Start the veteran kicker with confidence.
AJ Dillon Fantasy
Start AJ Dillon, RB, Green Bay Packers: Yes, Aaron Jones is outperforming AJ Dillon when it comes to rushing the football this season. His 6.8 yards per carry mark is miles above his counterpart's mark of 3.7. However, that shouldn't scare fantasy managers moving forward. Dillon has still seen at least 14 touches in every game this season and has out-touched Jones in the red zone (10-9). This is going to remain a split backfield in which both RBs are worth starting in fantasy football. The Giants have given up the fourth-most yards on the ground this season (476) as well, so trust Dillon to run wild on Sunday morning.
Richie James Fantasy
Sit Richie James, WR, New York Giants: Opportunity does not always lead to success in fantasy football. Many managers believed Richie James would step into a bigger role in Week 4 after Sterling Shepard went down with a knee injury in Week 3. Instead, James posted 9 yards on 1 reception, fumbled the ball and played in a season-low 32% of the offensive snaps against the Chicago Bears. Hoping he will bounce back this week is a risky move. The Packers are allowing the ninth-fewest PPR fantasy points to opposing WRs as well as just 11.8 yards per reception. James is merely a player worth being stashed in only deeper leagues at this point.
Robert Tonyan Fantasy
Sit Robert Tonyan, TE, Green Bay Packers: Robert Tonyan hauled in 6 receptions in Week 3 and caught a touchdown in Week 4. He is starting to look like the tight end fantasy managers came to love in 2020 and parts of 2021. However, he runs into a nightmare matchup in Week 5. The Giants have shut down one TE after another this year. New York has yet to give up a touchdown to the position and is allowing the 10th-fewest PPR fantasy points to opposing TEs. Tonyan is being overshadowed on offense because players likes of Allen Lazard and Romeo Doubs are starting to assert themselves as reliable targets for quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Don't expect that to change.
