Week 3 Sunday Night Football Fantasy Picks: Start 'Em, Sit 'Em for 49ers vs Broncos

Week 3 Sunday Night Football Fantasy Picks: Start 'Em, Sit 'Em for 49ers vs Broncos

Updated:

Two teams looking to surpass the .500 meet in Week 3 of the 2022 NFL season as the San Francisco 49ers travel to face the Denver Broncos. FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds have the 49ers tabbed as 1.5-point road favorites in this meeting.

If you need some help with your fantasy lineups, here's our start 'em, sit 'em advice for this Week 3 showdown.

George Kittle Fantasy

Start George Kittle, TE, San Francisco 49ers: After missing the first two games with a groin injury, all signs point to George Kittle playing this weekend. Kittle is one of the key cogs in San Francisco's offense and should succeed against a Broncos squad that's struggled against tight ends this season. It's a small sample size, but Denver has surrendered 16.3 fantasy points per game to TEs — the third most in the league. While Kittle is usually a great play, there's a decent shot at a top-five finish this week.

Courtland Sutton Fantasy

Start Courtland Sutton, WR, Denver Broncos: Just because the 49ers own a tough defense doesn't mean you should be afraid of starting Courtland Sutton. The Broncos' wide receiver has developed solid chemistry with quarterback Russell Wilson, resulting in an average of 5.5 catches on nine targets thus far. Now, Sutton is coming off a Week 2 performance that saw him finish as PPR's WR15 with 19.7 fantasy points. There's also a good chance that fellow Broncos WR Jerry Jeudy might not play on Sunday and even if he does, he likely won't be 100%. Jeudy's status should result in Sutton getting extra targets, likely resulting in another WR2 performance at a minimum.

Jimmy Garoppolo Fantasy

Sit Jimmy Garoppolo, QB, San Francisco 49ers: Jimmy Garoppolo is in as the 49ers' starting QB following Trey Lance's season-ending injury. Although Garoppolo has plenty of experience as a starter, he's in for a tough test against the Broncos. Denver has held opposing signal-callers to a lowly 12.7 fantasy points per game this year — fifth-fewest in the NFL. The Broncos also only give up 165.5 passing yards per game (No. 5) and with Jimmy G not exactly being the most mobile QB, his fantasy upside is limited in a run-heavy offense. Until proven otherwise, Garoppolo only belongs on your bench or in free agency.

Melvin Gordon Fantasy

Sit Melvin Gordon, RB, Denver Broncos: After making things work last year, a lot of people thought that Melvin Gordon and Javonte Williams could both be viable fantasy options again. Williams has done well as the RB14 through two weeks, however, Gordon hasn't, averaging 6.8 points per game for RB45 status. Things look even grimmer after Williams more than doubled his counterpart's playing opportunities in Week 2 (47 snaps to 23). Throw in the fact that the 49ers are giving up the seventh-fewest fantasy points to RBs this year and it's easy to see why Gordon should only be played by the desperate this week.
