Week 3 Fantasy Picks: Start 'Em, Sit 'Em for Packers vs Buccaneers

Week 3 Fantasy Picks: Start 'Em, Sit 'Em for Packers vs Buccaneers

Updated:

Week 3 of the NFL season features an exciting NFC battle between the Green Bay Packers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds show the Buccaneers as 1.5-point home favorites in a game full of fantasy talent.

If you need some help with your fantasy lineups, here's our start 'em, sit 'em advice for this Week 3 showdown between two possible Super Bowl contenders.

Aaron Jones Fantasy

Start Aaron Jones, RB, Green Bay Packers: Aaron Jones and the entire Green Bay Packers offense didn't look like themselves in Week 1. That all changed when Jones put up 29 PPR points en route to an RB2 performance against the Chicago Bears in Week 2, and we should expect more of the same heading into Week 3. Jones re-established himself as the best playmaker on Green Bay's roster, especially following the offseason loss of Davante Adams. Even with 1B running back AJ Dillon out-touching Jones by 8 rushing attempts and 1 target so far, Jones is the more efficient fantasy performer. He's caught 6-of-8 targets for 65 yards (and 1 score) and is averaging an insane 9.1 yards per attempt on the ground. Simply put, there are no other trustworthy fantasy options on Green Bay's roster right now, making Jones the focal point of the Packers' attack.

Leonard Fournette Fantasy

Start Leonard Fournette, RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers: David Montgomery torched Green Bay's defense for 122 yards on just 15 rushing attempts in Week 2. This came on the heels of Dalvin Cook putting up 90 rushing yards against them in Week 1. With so many of Tampa Bay's wide receivers entering the game with injury question marks, it's time for another heavy dose of Leonard Fournette. Fournette has been a workhorse this year, already racking up 45 rushing attempts and nearly 200 yards. Start him with confidence on Sunday.

Allen Lazard Fantasy

Sit Allen Lazard, WR, Green Bay Packers: Tampa Bay's secondary has a great opportunity to shut down Aaron Rodgers and his lack of wide receiver talent. They're holding opposing WRs to the eighth-fewest PPR points and opposing QBs to the second-fewest fantasy points this season. Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon already control 28.3% of the team's target share and that number only serves to grow in Week 3. This explanation applies for any and all of Green Bay's pass-catchers, including Lazard, Sammy Watkins, Romeo Doubs and Christian Watson.

Russell Gage Fantasy

Sit Russell Gage, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Tampa Bay's receivers enter this matchup in a delicate position. Mike Evans won't suit up because of his one-game suspension while Julio Jones and Chris Godwin didn't practice on Wednesday or Thursday. Russell Gage is dealing with a hamstring injury as well but looks the most poised to suit up. Even if he jumps up to the No. 1 spot on the depth chart, we don't advise slotting him into your fantasy lineup. Taking WR1 snaps means lining up against Jaire Alexander, a true shutdown corner. He's been targeted just three times thus far. The entire secondary is staunch, as Green Bay is allowing the fifth-fewest PPR points to opposing wideouts and ranks 10th in Football Outsiders' pass-defense DVOA metric.
