Week 3 Fantasy Picks: Start 'Em, Sit 'Em for Chiefs vs Colts

Week 3 Fantasy Picks: Start 'Em, Sit 'Em for Chiefs vs Colts

Updated:

The Kansas City Chiefs will look to keep their hopes of an undefeated season alive in a Week 3 road matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds list the Chiefs as 6.5-point favorites in a game that could get out of hand by the time the fourth quarter arrives.

If you need some help with your fantasy lineups, here's our start 'em, sit 'em advice for this Week 3 AFC showdown.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling Fantasy

Start Marquez Valdes-Scantling, WR, Kansas City Chiefs: The Chiefs offense is running through tight end Travis Kelce and running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire right now. It's only a matter of time before a wide receiver steps up with a big day, though. Marquez Valdes-Scantling may have the best chance to be that wide receiver. He has played the most offensive snaps (75.6%) and is tied for the most targets (11) of anyone at the position through two weeks. The Colts have been tough against opposing WRs so far, but MVS did average 18.3 yards per reception in his only career game against Indianapolis. One deep ball is all it takes for MVS to put up a FLEX-worthy performance.

Michael Pittman Jr. Fantasy

Start Michael Pittman Jr., WR, Indianapolis Colts: Of course, this start recommendation relies solely on wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr.'s health. He is still working his way back from a quad injury that kept him out of action in Week 2. The Colts struggled without him in a 24-0 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. In Week 1, Pittman posted 121 yards and 1 touchdown on 9 receptions (13 targets), which resulted in the fifth-most PPR fantasy points among WRs. He has a shot to replicate that level of success against a Chiefs' defense that has allowed the ninth-most PPR Fantasy points to opposing WRs in 2022. Don't hesitate to slide Pittman right back into your lineup.

JuJu Smith-Schuster Fantasy

Sit JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR, Kansas City Chiefs: Wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schister finds himself in a much different situation than his teammate Valdes-Scantling does. Smith-Schuster already has 2 drops on the year and is averaging a career-low 3.4 yards after the catch per receptions. He is not being productive whenever quarterback Patrick Mahomes throws his way. The Chiefs offense is built around spreading the ball around and taking advantage of whatever the defensive coverage is. That gives JuJu little upside in Week 3, especially against a Colts defense that has held WRs to 24 receptions through the first two games (T-No. 11 in NFL).

Matt Ryan Fantasy

Sit Matt Ryan, QB, Indianapolis Colts: Fantasy managers may consider Matt Ryan a streaming option this week given Kansas City's struggles to stop the pass. However, it's hard to deny that the Colts quarterback looks like a shell of himself as he inefficiently guides the offense right now. The four-time Pro Bowler has thrown only 1 touchdown compared to 4 interceptions and is on pace to set a career-low completion rate (60.0%). Pittman may be back on Sunday, but not even that is enough to justify starting Ryan after his disastrous Week 2 showing. He is merely a low-end QB2 moving forward.
