VIDEO: Remembering When Trent Green Threw the Longest Touchdown in Chiefs History

Trent Green might be better known these days for his broadcasting career than his playing career, but he was no slouch. His time with the Kansas City Chiefs is fondly remembered for two playoff appearances and 80 consecutive starts in his first five years. He also holds the record for the longest touchdown pass in Chiefs history.

On December 22, 2002, the Chiefs were facing off against the San Diego Chargers. Green and the Chiefs were backed up to the 1-yard line at the beginning of the third quarter. Despite the limited space, the Chiefs went against convention and called a play-action fake. Green got good protection and found Mark Boerigter running down the sideline.

Green stepped up in the pocket and tossed a 45-yard bomb to Boerigter, who sped past the shocked Chargers defenders to the end zone. The Chiefs ended up winning the game 24-22.

Green would lead the Chiefs to a 13-3 record and the No. 1 seed the next year. Although his career was eventually cut short due to concussions, Green's 15-year career in professional football was something to be proud of. Considering he was taken in the eighth round of the 1993 NFL Draft, got cut, went to the CFL at one point and eventually suffered a devastating injury that caused him to lose his job to Kurt Warner, it's safe to say Green did pretty well for himself.

Aside from becoming a widely-beloved figure in the football world, he is one of the best quarterbacks in Chiefs history and will hold the record for longest Chiefs touchdown pass for all-time, as you can't get any better than 99 yards.
