VIDEO: Remembering When Mike Alstott Had the Greatest 1-Yard Run in NFL History

One of the most feared runners in NFL history was Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Mike Alstott. Often seeking contact, the big running back absolutely ran over defenders during the '90's and early 2000s.

A classic example of this can be seen against the Minnesota Vikings, in one of the greatest 1-yard runs in NFL history.

Alstott was listed at 6-foot-1, 248 pounds, making him one of the larger ball carriers in NFL history. It's no wonder why defenders couldn't tackle him. In this Week 3, 1997 play, Alstott when straight ahead on the goal line, but was initially stopped. However, the second effort was able to get the job done.

He kept his footing, as he was thrown back to the 3-yard line. Then, he slipped one tackle and ran through another player to get in the end zone for six.

Alstott was also the definition of a short-yardage specialist. For his career, he averaged just 3.7 yards per carry, but he scored 47 touchdowns on the ground.

What's even more impressive is that he totaled 2,284 yards and 13 touchdowns as a receiver. Picture someone that big and athletic out in the open field, especially if you're a defensive back that is asked to get in his way.
