VIDEO: Remembering When Joe Mauer Ruined Anibal Sanchez's No-Hitter in the 9th Inning

Throwing a no-hitter or perfect game is pretty much the pinnacle of professional pitching. Merely coming close to accomplishing that feat is impressive by itself.

Most MLB pitchers don't come close at all. While others get a taste of it, coming so close they can almost feel it, just to have it snatched away from them at the last second.

Joe Mauer has ruined a few no-hitters in his day, but the one against Anibal Sanchez and the Detroit Tigers had to sting a little bit more for the opposing team.

With one out already down in the 9th inning, Mauer stepped up and hit a liner right over the pitchers head for a base hit, ending Sanchez's chance at immortality.

Mauer is one of the best hitters in league history, especially for a catcher. He was definitely one of the last guys Sanches was hoping to see step into the box during the closing inning. But hey, no one ever said throwing a no-hitter was easy. You still need to find a way to get 27 outs, no matter what.
