VIDEO: Kyle Lewis Makes Case for Injury Return With Power Display

Updated:

Seattle Mariners' center fielder Kyle Lewis has had a rough go of things since his Rookie of the Year campaign in 2020. Lewis underwent knee surgery a year ago, and was only able to return as the Mariners designated hitter to kick off his 2022 campaign.

Lewis then went on the concussion IL back in June and hasn't played an out at the MLB level since. Currently on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma, Lewis is making his case to get reinstated with a great power display.

After beginning his rehab stint with High-A Everett, Lewis returned to Triple-A in a big way, knocking his fourth home runs in as many games. Check out the video below.

Per all reports, the Mariners will continue to take things slow with their former Rookie of the Year winner. The current plan is to see Lewis get regular playing time in center field before bringing him back to the MLB roster.

Mariners News

Remember, Lewis hasn't played center field at the MLB level since 2021. He's played 16 games between High-A and Triple-A during rehab assignments, lighting up opposing pitching with a .340/.429/.830 slash line to go along with 7 home runs and 20 RBIs in just 47 at-bats.

Lewis is looking more and more like his Rookie of the Year form. The minute he's reacquainted with center field, Seattle needs to fully reinstate him from the IL.

The Mariners could use the help too. Seattle sits just 0.5 games back of the final AL Wild Card spot, and Lewis is the exact spark to help them jump into playoff position. The Mariners currently own +7000 odds to win the 2022 World Series on FanDuel Sportsbook.
