The 2022 World Cup in Qatar features plenty of intriguing matchups in the group stage. One match soccer fans can't wait for is USA vs. England on "Black Friday" right after Thanksgiving.

These two storied nations have some history with each other in the World Cup. Here's everything you need to know about this rivalry before they square off on Friday, Nov. 25.

USA vs England World Cup History

This year isn't the first time USA and England will face each other at the FIFA World Cup. In fact, these squads have already played two times before in the WC.

The most famous matchup between USA and England happened in 1950. These teams played each other during the group stage of the 1950 World Cup in Brazil, and it was USA that emerged with a 1-0 win.

The victory is remembered as one of the biggest upsets in WC history. England was a national powerhouse entering that tournament, while USA's squad was composed of mostly part-time players. USA's Joe Gaetjens scored the only goal of contest, which is now referred to as "The Miracle Match" and was the subject of a movie of the same name.

These teams didn't face off again at the FIFA World Cup until 2010. The highly anticipated rematch didn't feature a winner, as the contest ended in a 1-1 draw. England star Steven Gerrard got the scoring going early with a goal in the fourth minute, but USA's Clint Dempsey tied things in the 40th minute, which was the final score of the match.

USA vs England All-Time Record in Soccer

Though the U.S. has the edge in World Cup meetings, England has enjoyed more success all-time in this matchup. England is is 8-2-1 (W-L-D) against USA across FIFA World Cup play and other international matches or friendlies.

USA's only other win all-time against England aside from the 1950 WC victory came in June 1993. USA beat England 2-0 at the U.S. Cup, a tournament organized by the United State Soccer Federation.

The most recent meeting between USA and England was in a friendly in 2018. England won that match 3-0 on Nov. 15, 2018.
