Update Emerges on Red Sox-Marlins Trade Rumors

Updated:

The Boston Red Sox are busy looking for ways to improve their roster after an underwhelming haul in free agency. Rumors have emerged that Boston is exploring the trade market, and the current buzz suggests the team is discussing a splashy move with the Miami Marlins.

Now an update has emerged on these talks.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports "nothing appears close at the moment" regarding a Red Sox-Marlins deal. The insider notes Boston has interest in shortstop Miguel Rojas and infielder Joey Wendle, but a "larger deal" could include a starting pitcher as well.

Pablo Lopez has been one named linked to the Red Sox as these teams discuss a possible trade. The 26-year-old set career highs in starts (32), wins (10) and strikeouts (174) while posting a solid 3.75 ERA in 2022.

With three other starters 25 or younger, Boston certainly has options to pursue. However, with the Marlins eyeing top prospect Triston Casas, the Red Sox will want to maximize any potential haul. It remains to be seen if these clubs agree on a blockbuster, or a smaller deal.
